Novo Nordisk appoints new senior vice presidents

Pharmaceutical Company Restructures

Novo Nordisk has announced two senior vice-president appointments, with the company's European and north American divisions seeing new leaders.

Martin Soeters will take up the position as senior vice-president of the Europe region, effective from January 1st 2008. He is currently senior vice-president of the north America division as well as president of US affiliate Novo Nordisk Inc.

Replacing Mr Soeters in his former role is Jerzy Gruhn, who is currently vice-president of the Europe east region. In this capacity, Mr Gruhn helped expand the company's operations to 16 countries in the area.

Mr Soeters more than quadrupled the company's annual sales in the north American region in a six-year period from 2000 to 2006, taking them to a total of $2.1 billion. He has more than 27 years' experience at the firm.

"We are making the changes at a time when Novo Nordisk is doing well in both Europe and north America and are confident that we have the right leadership to secure our future growth in the two regions," said Kare Schultz, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Novo Nordisk.

Headquartered in Denmark, Novo Nodisk has a presence in 79 countries worldwide, according to the firm's website.
