Smith and Nephew launches new Allevyn dressings

Medical Company Product News

Smith & Nephew, the UK-based medical product manufacturer, has launched the latest additions to its Allevyn wound management range.

The Hull-based company, listed in the FTSE 100 Index, is releasing a "new and enhanced" version of the Allevyn non-adhesive dressing. This follows the previous launches of the new Allevyn adhesive and sacrum earlier this year.

Smith & Nephew claims that the new dressings are designed to provide an appropriate level of wound moisture for optimal wound healing, with three times greater fluid capacity in comparison to the previous products, thanks to a more breathable top film.

Joe Woody, president of Smith & Nephew Wound Management, remarked: "Following on from the extremely successful launch of the new Allevyn Adhesive products earlier in the year, this second launch further strengthens Allevyn's position as the leading global brand within the foam dressings market."

"These enhancements mean that the Allevyn range of products offer even more benefits to our customers and will continue to improve the quality of life of their patients," he added.

Earlier this year, Smith & Nephew said tough market conditions resulted in lower-than-expected sales and that 2006 represents a "very important year" for the Allevyn range in strengthening the company's foothold in the wound management market.
