Corporate Affairs Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and influential Corporate Affairs Manager within our Communications & Healthcare Strategy team on a fixed term period for 6- 12months. In this time your role will be to design and deliver effective internal communications strategies, plans and activities to support the objectives of Roche UK. You will help protect, maintain and enhance the reputation of Roche in the UK – internally and externally, and will develop and implement non-product external communications activities. Ultimately you will help and work closely with the Corporate Affairs Lead to provide cover and deputise for various aspects of the role.
Looking more closely at the role, the following encompasses the key responsibilities (this is not exhaustive):
Internal Communications:
• With the Corporate Affairs Team help develop an annual internal communications strategy / business plan to ensure that key business strategies, milestones, events, issues and other relevant information are effectively communicated to employees
• Drive the implementation of communication strategies and plans to support key business projects or initiatives especially those related to our staff engagement
• Advise senior managers and their management teams on leadership communications best practices
• Work closely with colleagues to ensure internal and corporate communications are in line with Roche group and global functional strategies.
• Manage effective relationships with our CA / internal communication agencies and contractors to ensure they deliver
• Develop clear, targeted and accurate content for internal communications channels including:
- Face to face employee communication events / VIP visits
- Employee magazine
- Intranet news area
- Electronic notice/communication boards
• Support the designated Communications Manager on our Crisis Management Team if required with internal communications in the event of an issue and / or crisis
• Ensure that internal communications reach our field-based employees
• Lead the evaluation of internal communications strategies, plans and activities to demonstrate their effectiveness in supporting objectives and staff engagement
Company Communications:
• Support the external communications strategy, with the Corporate Affairs Team, Head of PR and Director of Communications
• Support local media relations to enhance the local reputation of Roche in the local community (e.g. Roche’s community sponsorship and employee fundraising activities)
• Create content for the UK Corporate website (http://www.roche.co.uk/); in partnership with the Digital Lead, UK Diagnostics as well as Informatics (for additional support as required)
• Support the management of non-product specific media relations for the UK pharmaceutical company including proactive media campaigns and handling reactive media enquiries
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will be experienced in implementing a variety of internal and external communication strategies, plans and activities. whilst maintaining the integrity and professionalism of the team.
In addition, we are looking for:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Advising, persuading and influencing people at all levels, including senior managers
• Developing and delivering tactical communications plans
• Understanding the UK business environment and products and translating business objectives into communications solutions
• Establishing relationships with, and understand the varying perspectives of, difference audiences/stakeholders
• Understanding and advocating the wider implications of alternative courses of action
• Excellent organisational and project-management skills
• Maintaining and prioritising a wide variety of short and long term projects
• Working under pressure to tight deadlines with limited supervision
• Analysing and resolving problems
• Diplomacy, tact and professionalism
• Working effectively with cross-functional teams
• Assimilating technical information and translating it into clear, concise and positive messages
Performance Standard:
• Understanding of internal communication techniques and best practice
• Understanding of external communications and media relations principles and best practice
• Understanding the pharmaceutical industry and key issues affecting the business and employees
