According to the UN, the proportion of people needing humanitarian assistance worldwide has gone from 1 in 45 at the beginning of 2020, to 1 in 33 in 2021. This is a shocking increase of 40% in just one year. The impacts of COVID-19 on people in lower-income countries have intensified massively in 2021 putting an enormous strain on already overstretched health systems.
But as the media continues to be preoccupied with the pandemic in the UK, little space has been given to overseas disasters such as this summer’s major earthquake in Haiti, or economic crises affecting countries like Lebanon. A lack of media attention unfortunately leads to severe underfunding of humanitarian responses which in turn leads to avoidable death and suffering.
“International Health Partners Big Give Christmas Challenge.“
International Health Partners (IHP) is a small UK-based charity that is helping to address this need. By coordinating the safe donation of long-dated medicines from the pharmaceutical industry and distributing them through its network of in-country NGO partners, IHP supports people in disaster-hit and vulnerable communities to access the healthcare they need – even after the headlines are gone.
If you want to help improve access to medicine for those most in need please give today and your donation will be DOUBLED!
As part of The Big Give Christmas Challenge, £22,500 in pledges will only be unlocked if IHP can raise the same amount online between now and midday, 7 December. For every £1 donated, IHP can send around £10 worth of medicine to those in need. During the Christmas Challenge this is doubled, meaning the value of your support is multiplied 20 times!
